Jamaica

I have read about Jamaica in Searching 10, because it was homework for Wednesday (11.04).  In this text I will write a short type of summary. It is mostly about what I think was interesting in the text.
I start with some basic facts. The capital in Jamaica is Kinston. Kingston is also the largest city. The population in Jamaica: 2,780,000. And the Area is 10,991 km².  The official language is English. It is the third most populous English-speaking country in the Americas.
Christopher Columbus was the first European who came to Jamaica in 1494.Jamaica is an island in the Caribbean Sea, just south of Cuba. The island was a British colony from 1665 to 1962.
One thing Jamaica has become known for is the musical form reggae. Reggae is an African Caribbean style of music and has elements of blues, calypso, soul and rock.
I have never been in Jamaica, but would like to go there some day.  J

Mississippi Burning

In class, we have seen a film, called Mississippi Burning. Later we had a test about this film. We had different tasks to choose. I selected to write about Mississippi Burning and to reflect in President Obama. Here is my work.
The film "Mississippi Burning" is based on a true story. It takes place in a small town in Mississippi, in the year 1964. Three young civil rights workers were killed by a group of police offer’s and Klansmen. They shoot the civil rights workers and deposit their bodies in an earthen dam at a nearly farm.

Mississippi Burning is a film that shows a lot about how racism has affected the community before. It shows how some people treated blacks, and how they were divided. This film is even more touching because it is based on a true story. Racism has fortunately become much less the last 50 years. Today, there is not segregation. Everyone lives together in the same society. There are still some racist groups, but they are not powerful. A good example was when Obama became president. That a black should "control" the United States had never happen before. It shows how much us people have changed the last 50 years. Obama works very well in the United states today. I think he has made America a better place to live. Many people has huge respect, and are very proud to have Obama as the president.

I think it is lovely to see how great progress we have made together, but it is still possibility for improvement.

Arne Ness and how thouths about how our lifestyle should be

The wild life has been, and still is a very important theme for many people, especially for philosophers. Philosophers have many views about how we people live today, for example how we should treat the nature and how pollution spoils the world. There are many thought on how we can live in a more sensible way. Are we willing to change our way to live, to make a better environment?
In religion we have worked with the philosopher Arne Ness. He was a Norwegian man who would find the connection of our own lives, and the nature we are a part of. He thought it was important to fill our needs, but not more than necessary. More respect for the nature and the animals, was also an important thing he stood for. Mahatma Gandhi was a man he looked up to. He was a supporter of his thinking.
Many people today do not care about the environment. There are many who could do more than they do. This is something I also should care more about. Many people have come in to an environment, where many have been too lazy. They need to remember that the earth will change much, if we do not change our lifestyles. There are so little things we can do, to change something big.
Pollution has become a big problem. According to searching 10, 75 000 trees could be spared each week by recycling the Sunday edition of the New York Times. This is a good example, and there are many more!
Wildlife is maybe the most important part of community. Plants and animals give us people much of what we need to survive. Like food, clothing and materials for our houses. We must give more respect to animals and plants, since they give so much.
As a conclusion I think we have to change our lifestyles, and treat the nature, animals and plants better. If we do not, this can become a very big problem.
